I personally know of one person that went to one of the largest banks in the United States, Chase, in one of the largest cities in the United States, Houston, TX, and asked to withdraw $20,000 of his hundreds of thousands of dollars that he had on his bank statements. The bank had to call multiple branches in Houston, TX to combine this amount of dollars and have Brinks deliver it to the bank location where he was located.

This withdrawal of $20,000 was actually done to prove a critical point. It’s overwhelming to have a huge weight loss goal, but you can achieve it if you start the right way, and don’t make drastic changes that you cannot continue. Slow down, take a deep breath, and set yourself up for success with these simple steps.

1) Set Achievable Goals

What’s your overall weight loss goal, and by what date do you want to accomplish it? If you want to lose a few pounds you might only need two weeks or so to reach that goal, but if you’re looking to lose a lot of weight you might have a long road ahead of you. To stay focused, set short term milestones that you can work towards, as opposed to only the end result that you desire. Your goals could be a smaller target weight, a few minutes spent walking, miles walked or run in a week, or cutting back on the amount of normal junk food consumed.

2) Know What Your Caloric Intake Should Be

Losing weight is all about burning more calories than you consume. You can start by eating lower calorie foods and/or less food, and by increasing your activity level. Aim for a healthy rate of about two pounds per week.

3) Plan Your Meals Ahead of Time

Planning your meals and shopping for everything you need ahead of time removes the stress of having to throw together a last minute meal, or getting fast food full of calories. You can start by just planning your meals through Wednesday, and slowly increase the number of days you cook. Also, take your leftovers from these healthier meals as lunches throughout the week. This will save you hundreds of dollars and calories every week!

4) Keep Up with the Amount of Food You Eat

Knowing what, and how much, you eat will reveal your good and bad habits. As soon as you start seeing things you can change, the better. Showing yourself everything you’re eating will help hold yourself accountable to your goals. Record what you eat every day.

5) Eat the Right Portions of Foods

One of the most straightforward ways to cut calories is to cut quantity: After all, half the portion equals half the amount of calories. When you’re eating at a restaurant, divide your food in half and take a 10-minute break from eating. You may find that you’re not hungry any more, and your can take the remaining half home for another satisfying meal. Also, eat on a smaller plate to make it trick your mind into thinking you are eating more.

6) Remove any Barriers to Your Success

Often times we make unhealthy decisions based on convenience. Set yourself up for success by planning ahead and preparing. Think about what’s holding you back: Proper shoes? Bring an extra pair to work to walk at lunch. Craving snacks? Keep a fresh fruit bowl on your desk instead of a candy dish. Don’t let availability or convenience be what holds you back

7) Drink Plenty of Water

Like your garden, your body just operates better when you’re well hydrated. Drinking water can also help curve your appetite. Keep a water bottle or glass with you at work so that you can easily reach for it instead of snacks. Walking to refill your water bottle adds more active movement to your day than just sitting at your desk for hours.

8) Set Time Aside for Exercise

Exercise doesn’t have to killing yourself at the gym trying the latest fitness craze. One of the best thing you can do to start an exercise routine is just to walk. If the American Heart Association’s recommended 30 minutes a day of walking most days of the week is too much for you, start small with just five minutes, and gradually work your way up.

9) Reward Your Successes as You Achieve Your Goals

The best thing about setting achievable goals for yourself is that you can actually achieve them. As you reach the short term milestones in your weight loss plan, take the time to pat yourself on the back. Your reward can be as simple as telling others about it on Facebook or my favorite, eating a bowl of ice cream, or it can be as fun and expensive as buying yourself new clothes or going on a getaway with family or friends. It has not even been a week since starting the Visalus 90 day challenge and I have already lost 4 pounds without even trying! Of course, results vary from person to person, but all I have done so far is replace one meal a day with the yummy 98 calorie Visalus Vi Shake.

If you have had any desire to lose weight, get back in shape, or even gain muscle mass, Visalus has a plan for you. Visalus has thousands of people improving their lives by giving them the nutrition, success training, and step-by-step plan for creating the body they desire.

3 things I have done, when I’m too lazy to exercise, that I have been doing for quite some time to maintain my weight since losing 30 pounds about 5 years ago:

1) Eat 5 small meals a day instead of just 3. When you eat every 2 or 3 hours, your body gets use to eating that often and it metabolizes more of what you eat. If you do what most people do, and eat only 3 meals a day, or less, then your body actually decreases it metabolic rate, digests less, and retains more of what you eat because your body goes into survival mode to have enough energy until you eat hours later.

2) Eat smaller portions every time I eat. It was hard at first because my stomach was use to having more each time a ate but after about two days I actually felt just the same as I did when I was eating more at every meal. A way to trick yourself into thinking you are eating the same amount is to use a smaller plate. The plate looks full, you eat everything on it, and your meal is done.

3) Quick, I mean quick, little exercises that stimulate my mind, energy, and yes, metabolism. With only 5 or 10 minutes a day, I simply stop what I am doing, while at home, and either stretch, do a few push ups, or a few sit ups. Anything you can do to increase oxygen to your muscles, and increase any amount of muscle on your body, will improve your energy and your metabolism. Muscle burns a lot more calories per hour than fat. Replace any fat with muscle and your metabolism will increase, and your weight will drop.

Do these 3 things, along with replacing a meal or two a day with a 98 calorie Vi shake. You will see incredible changes in your weight loss, higher energy, and even the ability to stop relying on medications to control blood pressure, blood sugar, sore joints, short breath, etc.

According to the World Health Organization, “The latest WHO projections indicate that at least one in three of the world’s adult population is overweight and almost one in 10 is obese. Additionally there are over 20 million children under age five who are overweight.”

What is not known by many is that the risk of health problems starts even when someone is only minimally overweight, and that the probability of problems increases as someone gains more and more weight. Many of these conditions cause long-term related health problems for individuals and families. In addition, the health care costs can be extremely high.

The good news is that being overweight or obese can largely be preventable. The key to success is to maintain an energy balance between consumed calories on one hand, and burned calories on the other hand.

There are a few things you can do to prevent

health problems related to

Childhood and Adult obesity.

First of all, you can limit intake of calories in your diet.  To limit consumed calories, you can limit intake from total fats and shift fat consumption away from saturated fats to unsaturated fats; increase consumption of fruit and vegetables, as well as legumes, whole grains and nuts; and limit your intake of sugars.

Second of all, you can increase the number of daily calories that you burn. To increase calories used, you can boost your levels of physical activity – to at least 30 minutes of regular, moderate-intensity activity on most days of the week.

All it takes to lose one pound is to burn 3700 more calories than you consume.  This is around 500 calories a day.  You can do this by cutting back a few hundred calories a day by eating less or eating healthier and/or by burning a few hundred calories most days of the week.

Childhood obesity is already epidemic in some area and on the rise in others. An estimated 22 million children under five are overweight worldwide. According to the US Surgeon General, the number of overweight children in the United States has doubled and the number of overweight adolescents has tripled, since 1980.

The two main causes of being overweight or obese, according to the World Health Organization, are consumption of energy-dense foods high in saturated fats and sugars, and reduced physical activity.
